Know Utpalda now from close to 15 years. His knowledge of music and songs of the Golden Era surprises us. Students and music-lovers like me, just have to mention the song that we would like to render, and there goes the intro music, and in the appropriate scale for you. The nuances that are brought to notice at sensitive places in a song seem very trivial on the face, but go a long way in the complete expression of the mood of the songs. Great knowledge of Tabla too, I have seen Utpalda correct and give directions to the tabla player by playing it himself. Learning music from utpalji for more than 15 years! He is the best teacher I have ever learnt from! Whenever he is happy with my singing, he gives me a 10 rupee note!! They are so precious to me that I have preserved them all with dates & mention of song that earned me the note!
